I think we as high skilled immigration community need to accept some sort of restrictions on H-1B visa for our provisions for lost visa recapture or additional EB permanent visas. We need to let Senator Grassley know what we can accept. Otherwise everybody is at standstill and nothing will happen.

Why do we need this thing?
Let him say what he want to .
I disagree. His show is widely watched, so this is one more avenue where a small effort can have disproportionate results.

Folks
Stay focused our (IV) Main Agenda, please dont get distracted with all these ideas.
Krishna we are focussed on the main goal, Unfortunately we have yet to see any headway and may not see any this year either coz of the million other problems. Hence my suggestion of alternate strategies. Like I said, just a suggestion.

lasts even that long.. it probably will be exhausted during April itself..
well, I have to keep my hopes up. Since I HAVE to wait to get H4 extension before I can apply for H1 transfer, I'd like to see them last long enough so that I can get an H1 IN time, this year.
It can be so disappointing to get the job but miss the quota for 2 consecutive years    and then 2 years I was ineligible for H1 because of the 6 yr limit. :(
Anyway, every dog has its day and I am hoping this is the year when I get my H1. :D

I think some members have put their votes in wrong bucket.
Please check bucket BEFORE NOV 2002 and click on each member you will see some members from PD 2006 put their votes in this bucket.
Profile just displays Labor approval date, not application date. But interesting observation. Some have approval date of Nov 2002 -- so very possible that their PD is much earlier.

Here is what I guess people are scared of
Every company has a lawyer on its payroll so they can easily start some court case to harras you. In this country you do not have much support except some close friends and may be far off relatives. So even if you know that you have done nothing wrong and have solid case the idea of hiring a lawyer and fighting a legal battle scares a lot of people. Plus every one has a job and family responsiblities and they cannot devote time to all these things. Say you are now working in New Jersey and your old employer is based in California and files a case against you there what will happen will you have to travel to california to represent in case? what will happen to your job and expenses etc. I am not sure if these are valid concerns but just thinking of this will dissuade a person to gear up for any kind of fight.

Nobody is complaining because everybody has the attitude, "Let somebody else do it, I will reap the benefits". It it the like, "Why should I pay IV when everybody else is paying it; I should just get free advice".
I & my colleague filed a complaint against our ex-employer early this year and the DOL W&H said they will work on our case in then next 3 months; they are currently working on cases filed in the last quarter of 2007. The reason why I filed a complaint was not because I need the money he owes me but because he exploits every employee and I wanted to bring him out in the open (will post the outcome once DOL does something about it). "The first step in fighting injustice, is to make it visible" - Mahatma Gandhi
The fact is, as long as the employer knows he can get away with shit they will continue to break rules. Now that ICE is cracking down on er's hiring illegal immigrants you will see that er's will stop hiring them. I think the reason why we cannot get our much deserved provisions passed in the house and congress is because of the fact that today lots of US Citizens and Green Card holders are loosing their job to the people who are illegally present in the U.S. I don't beleive in shit, "Employer's cannot find U.S. workers". The fact is that employer's are not willing to pay workers the wages they deserve. Imagine one hour of Federal wage today after taxes will only get you 1 gallon of gas.
The employers are happier to hire illegals as they can pay them shit wages, they don't have to pay er's contribution of social security wages, no er's contribution of state taxes, no Medicare tax, no workers compensation. Just imagine wont we be annoyed if we can't find a job in India because Nepali or Bangladeshi (no disrespect to these countries) illegal migrants are talking our jobs away from us by working for lower wages.
Sorry for all this rant; I am tired of waiting for GC for the last eight years and am tired of people sitting on their dump xxx hoping somebody will fight for their cause and they will get to reap the benefit. As to somebody's comment about India being a colony for 150 years, do you think it would have happened if everybody had revolted one fine day (every single human being) against the Britishers? I guess everybody must be thinking, why should I get by axx kicked when my neighbour is doing it for me.

Guys,
How about start or finish the rally with US National Anthem ?
This will get a lot of attention. Above all it will show 'Legal Immigrants' different + communicate a lot.
Also encourage to get more American friends.
You can have a beer after the rally !
Good Luck.
This is a perfectly Gandhian idea:-) (He did that in South Africa)
Let's do it... the beer part should be postponed to some other time... presumably after all categories become C:-)

Deadline = April 30th, 2011
Goal = 5000 votes on survey (see I-485 filing w/o current PD thread) and momentum to continue with this campaign. The survey is a platform to gather and push for launching action items. Based on response by 04/30/2011 - IV will decide whether to even proceed with initiative or not.
Actions - 1) Vote on survey.
2)Email ivcoordinator@gmail.com with PD, ph#,email & subject "I485 filing impacted,
3)Print/Circulate Fliers and spread FB, wiki link (see "support thread")
Dear IV Members,
If you believe that your success depends on your immigration process - whether it's the ability to file I-485 earlier or to get green-card and citizenship sooner or whether it's the ability of your spouse to work - then you have to believe that your success somehow depends on the success of Immigration voice and these 170 volunteers in DC next week.
As you may know, we are just one more week away from hosting Advocacy day in Washington DC where about 170 members of Immigration Voice will conduct nearly 250 meetings with offices of Senators and Congressmen. Such events cost money. If we have enough contributions, we can spend as per our budget of nearly $ 50,000. If not, we will have to cut back on the event spending and reduce the magnitude and size of the event.
If you are not coming to DC next week, please do your part and contribute funds to Immigration Voice. It not only finances the event properly, it instills pride and confidence in the members who will be there in DC that there are thousands of willing supporters behind them who could not be there physically but are 100% with them in their determination and resolve.

Like many other technology forums, you need to be a paid member to see any premium content, else only part of the message is visible...that makes every one a paid member...we can have a similar setup to see a senior member post...that way every post from a senior members will generate revenue and in turn more money for lobbying!
Eg: www.dsxchange.com, this site used to be a free site a couple of year ago; as the content grows members too soared in no time. Now, it is mandatory to pay yearly to read and ask/reply seniors members posts, else u will only read junior member posts.
We are 25k strong! Just to remind, Microsoft bought hotmail paying millions not for the lousy hotmail software, it is for the huge members that has already signed up by then.
In our case we have to make things mandatory for obvious reasons. I strongly think the word donation/contribution doesn’t work, if it could have worked we wouldn’t have this discussion after so many requests. It is time to make things mandatory, please :(.
