This is how I used my EAD. I filed 485/EAD/AP in July 2007. I did not do anything till Feb-2008. I made a call to my employer in Feb-2008 (6 months after I-485) and asked him to give me a raise. He was aware of the fact that I can use AC-21 and leave anytime. We renegotiated everything, this time heavily in my favor (for a change). I got 20% salary hike effective from that very day. I kept same employer, same job, same client but used EAD and AC-21 to put pressure on my employer. Needless to say, in the past, I have been on the receiving side of the pressure from employers because of H1-B too.
My suggestion - You can not play safe your whole life.

After reading through all the posts at IV, I've decided to get the Atlas America Medical insurance for my parents. This is the only comprehensive insurance I could find and most others have limited coverage. The cost is around $900 for 3 months for a $500000 policy with $2500 deductible.
Could members who had this insurance post their experience?
Also, is there any other comprehensive plan available for visitors?
we used IMG international's/sirius international patriot america with a $250 decutible 90/10, for 50K...
one thing I noticed is this company takes a long time ( most other visitor insurance companies too I suspect) for settling cliams..we still have a claim not settled since for a one in december and most of these dont cover pre existing conditions and they are very very restrictive.. however there are some insuranc companies who provide a rider for pre existing conditions for an extra dough..
just make sure to call them for any major visit (hopefdully not needed but in any case) , the one above we got was a comprehensive NOT a limited one..still I think these insurance carriers in my opinion do their best to delay the claim and do whatever they can to sneak up on you with a surprise

Just curious. Why do you claim ROW is receiving preferential treatment over India when all the countries get the same upper limit of the visas. Now if the Indians ask for more visas just because there are more Indians asking for green cards, wouldn't that be preferential treatment? :)
Why do think that "India" is the name of 1 human being that everyone from India should be treat like 1 person. Each person applies for his/her I-485, even each member of a family is considered separate. What if they start screening EAD or GC guys and decide applications on the fact that at one point of time one has not maintained this rule and start denying.
I dont think one would get any lead time to figure this out. if they(USCIS) decide to do so, Example is where the H1's were turned back at newark airport(Did they get any lead time. i dont think so)
So the better thing is to understand first what the exact implications of this memo are and act now peace fully. atleast call ,send emails or some thing similar .

They want to charge $8500 for every renewal . I have a better idea here , make H1 valid for 3 months instead of 3 years, More money for these guys.
All of these guys are competing give amnesty at the same punishing employers who play by the rules.
These guys should be ashamed themselves. I dont be suprised if some of desi consulting companies encourage people to convert from H1 to Z1.

I dont think it's a good idea. The fundraising thread demonstrates that we do have people who understand the stakes and are willing to do something about it. Ofcourse we need a lot more money but we should be able to persuade people to contribute voluntarily. I don't like exclusive clubs

Hey stop being negative. All we can do is hope n god willing we will get it. I have been waiting to get my green since last 12 years ok. Butr im still optimistic. Also lets fax the congress n whitehouse for the same. Ifu guys see numberusa site the anit immigrant pepole r pilling up the faxes against it so lets all unite n send the faxes in support of it. Also with the blue visas in Europen country will make a big difference for us. So they r quiet aware. Lets not fight and give reds to each other instead concentrate on faxing the faxes to white house in support of this bill as irt does matter all of us. I never got any LUDs but got a denial on my 485 after going through the AC21/NOID stuff way back in August, 2008.
There could be some background processing going on.

I understand that I'm trying to chose a devil/insurance, which is lesser evil compared to the rest.
So, in that aspect, Comprehensive/Fixed appears to NOT matter at all. These are just pricey nouns. I can't believe that K.V.Rao's insurance lying publicly that it's a not-for-profit. These ridiculous kinds, stoop to such a level of cheating people with a Indian name on it.
I'm still open for any recommendations here. I appreciate all your comments & suggestions so far.

Did it occur to anyone that we are only talking about compensating Aman the $64k he spent already. Imagine if he had made use of that $64k as an investment(let us say a safe investment with minimum returns) of that amount it should have exceeded that $64k value by now.
The least we can do at this moment is to immediately refund Aman and other core team members the amount they have spent towards the administrative costs of IV. Pappu / Logic Life / Other core team members, please let us know what kind of legal/administrative action is required to get this done.
We will immediately start a funding drive towards filling in this shortage from the total IV funds. IMHO on the longer run the smaller funds ($10, $20 etc) should not be neglected.
Let us figure out the required amount and have a new thread started about this. This settlement should be treated with high priority before any other funding drive. Pledging my $200 towards this.

Not a single penny has been reimbursed to him for his trips to DC, food and stay in DC or car rental in DC. He even risked his job and went to DC on unpaid leave at critical times because lobbying was important for getting our work done. We in the core team know this and when we see the kind of contributions we get from members, we feel disappointed that our efforts are not valued. When we started the $20 contributions people felt $20 was too high and wanted $10 per month or less. The kind of work and effort that is needed to push a single provision is phenomenal and needs lot of capital. The more the better. Sometimes reading posts that say IV core is selfish also disappoints us. People do not know the effort that goes in getting anything done. This website is simply a tool for us to communicate to everyone. The big effort is the lobbying work. So How come all we hear from the core team is requests for contribution? There is no detail of any actions/efforts that are happening currently? It will certainly be more engaging for all members to at least know what efforts are being worked on currently? I think expectations need to work both ways otherwise you just have an autocratic organization that has to follow and do as the leaders choose to do. Just my 2 cents and all you frustrated folks please take a deep breath before jumping in.

Historically, IV threads are the major attentive media to declare the existence. We should not kill that with any enforcement of "Paid membership"...It is always hard to wake people. If that would be easy than nobody would have used the word "Struggle"..right:). On other hand yes there is a dier need of increasing financial strength exponentially and that too quickly is at high priority. We need to think and find other ways and resources.
